OH BOY

Cook, one of your cats, posing with the positive pregnancy test

On January 17, 2025, I had my establishing appointment at the OBGYN. “I should find a doctor before we REALLY start trying, that would be smart.” I thought.

I was supposed to start my period that morning (sorry TMI but pregnancy is basically normalized body horror so it’s only gonna get worse from here), but I didn’t think anything of it that day. It’s the morning! Plenty of time.

But the next day…also nothing. I started to have a little feeling. Your dad thought I was being silly, but I had a box of cheap pregnancy tests and decided to take one Sunday morning.

Your dad and I looked at it together— “that…looks like two lines, maybe?” we said. but we didn’t really believe it. “It’s a cheap test! I’m only two days late! We’ll take one tomorrow morning just to see.”

Our friend Cedric (Marshall’s dad) rode to church with us that morning. We started talking about our house, and he mentioned offhand that we’d be fine if we had a kid here instead of selling it. Your dad and I tried not to make eye contact with each other, he had NO IDEA how much we were freaking out.

We somehow made it through that day, and the next day, MLK Jr Day, I took another test. A ClearBlue test. No fooling around this time. Your dad wanted me to bring it in the bedroom so we could look at it together, but that double line came up IMMEDIATELY. Your dad and I just kinda stared at each other like alright…we are doing this.

So normally, people recommend waiting to tell people about a pregnancy until week 12. That’s when it’s “safe” and fewer things can go wrong. But we had the day off and there was no way we were doing that (how in the world were we going to sit on this for SEVEN weeks) so we stood in the kitchen at the island and face timed EVERYONE. It took hours. I had a bad headache (you actually helped quite a bit with those eventually, thanks) but I didn’t even care.

Everyone (including us) was so, so excited. We’re still so excited. Just a few more weeks until we get to meet you!!
